BFIS BarcelonaThe Benjamin Franklin International School was founded in 1986 as a non-profit, independent, co-educational day school to meet the needs of the local and international communities for an American curriculum school.

The school is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. BFIS is sponsored by the Office of Overseas Schools of the US Department of State and is authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Education. The school is a member of ECIS and MAIS.

The American college preparatory curriculum includes a wide range of AP courses and specialized classes in Spanish, Catalán and French. The extra-curricular activities include sports, music, drama, chorus, Student Council, Model United Nations, Math Team and Yearbook. College and guidance counseling services and an Optimal Match Program are available for all grades. ESL classes are available for grades 1-10 and SFL in grades 1-12. The majority of BFIS graduates attend colleges and universities.

The teaching staff are experienced and certified in their grade level or subject area. Many have advanced degrees. Sixty-two percent are American, 27% are Spanish and 11% are British and Swiss. There are specialists in music, art, physical education, computer and library sciences.
